At ʻIolani School, the Independent Research course allows students to explore deeply an academic topic, problem or issue of individual interest. Students design, plan and conduct a year-long research based investigation to address their research question. Through the course, students research methodology, employ ethical research practices and access, analyze and synthesize information as they conduct research. The course culminates in an academic paper and public presentations of their work at science fairs and the ‘Iolani Science Symposium.
